About the Makerthon

Come be apart of creating Africa’s pioneer bikeshare program Tuesday, August 2nd – 5th at the (Maktaba)JKML Library. The bike share program will enable faster accessibility around campus as well as promote growth of an environmentally friendly, sustainable, safe and low cost transportation option for broader Nairobi.

A winner will be selected from each category by the UN and our alumni panel of judges. The winners will go on to turn their ideas into reality with the support of mentors, funding and the bike share program team.

Who is eligible?

  • You are a registered student.
  • You will be available to attend the makerthon from 1st August to 5th August

Challenges

  • Technology: Is your sweet spot where coding meets user experience? Come design a web application that easily enables users to find stands, unlock/return bikes, track bikes and make payments.
  • Docking Stations : Love creating practical, user friendly and innovative designs? Come design the docking stations for quick, easy and secure access to bikes.
  • Marketing: Is your mind always streaming with catchy slogans that capture the minds and hearts of audiences? Come design the promotional materials and events to spread awareness and upscale the adoption of cycling as a mode of travel in Nairobi.

Dates Activities
3rd August, 2016 Makerthon begins. Teams start designing their innovations.
3rd – 4th August, 2016 Top 3 teams from each challenge advance to the prototyping phase.
5th August, 2016 Finalists present their innovation to judging panel. Winners are chosen.
