More Cabinet Secretaries to grace the Nairobi Innovation Week

The chairman of the committee spearheading the second edition of the Nairobi Innovation week, Dr. Tonny Omwansa has confirmed that Hon. Adan Mohamed and Hon. Fred Matiangi will attend the event. He said “Plans are underway to involve all the relevant stakeholders within the government ministries.”

Some of the strategic partners include the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Industrialization and Enterprise Development and Ministry of ICT.

Hon. Mohammed (former MD Barclays) will be attending the 2nd Edition this year in his capacity as the CS for Industrialization and Enterprise Development. His ministry is charged with realizing the goals set for vision 2030 by the Kenyan government. Innovation directly falls under this docket.

The ministry of Industrialization and Enterprise Development is mandated to formulate a policy that will promote local industry through procurement of locally made products for the local market and export. Hon Mohamed is expectedto engage the delegates at the Nairobi Innovation Week 2016on the current government policies in regard to innovation and what his docket is doing to encourage innovation especially through intellectual property and copyrights protection.


The Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi, Ministry of Education

Hon. Matiangi is well known as an innovation champion. In the 1st edition of the Innovation week, hewas the chief guest and delivered a key note speech as the Cabinet Secretary, ICT. The university through the Computing for Development Lab has partnered with the Ministry of Education in both editions of the Innovation Week.

Hon. Matiangi is one of the chief guests in the second edition of the event and is expected to deliver one of the highly anticipated key note speeches. Having served in both the Ministries of ICT and Education, he is well knowledgeable of the policies in place that endorse innovation and delegates are expected to engage him on the same.

Emerging trends in education at leading institutions point towards an innovation driven system where students are encouraged to harness theirinnovative ideas into fully fledged businesses. The University of Nairobi welcomes delegates, exhibitors and sponsors alike to register for this year’s edition of the innovation week to be held on 1 – 5 August 2016.
