Dr. Jay Taneja is a research scientist at the IBM Research – Africa lab, headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. Jay joined the lab in 2013, and leads the lab’s efforts on improving energy access, reliability, and quality in sub-Saharan Africa. His research interests are in applying information and communication technology to improve the performance and monitoring of infrastructure systems. He completed his PhD in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, U.S.A. in 2013, where his research was focused on novel uses of embedded systems for managing electricity loads to enable electricity grids to incorporate large amounts of renewable generation. In 2017, he will begin as an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in the U.S.A.
