Director, Public Policy and Corporate Responsibility (Sub-Saharan Africa)

Merck Sharp and Dohme (MSD) (Merck in the U.S. and Canada)

Mr. Jiwa leads public policy efforts and partnerships with stakeholders across the Sub-Sahara African region to advance MSD’s access to health and pharmaceutical policy initiatives. He also oversees MSD’s corporate responsibility efforts across the continent to ensure effective implementation and achieve desired results. Prior to joining MSD, Mr. Jiwa’s experience spanned organisations from the public-private partnership, non-profit, and public sectors including Gavi, AMREF, and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), amongst others. Born in Tanzania, Mr. Jiwa grew up there and in Kenya, Zambia, and Canada. He received his Master of Science (S.M.) and Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) degrees from Harvard and Cambridge universities, respectively, and completed his undergraduate education at McGill University.
