René John Dierkx works for UNICEF in Malawi on innovation, design-and-building standards and built-quality regarding planning, design and implementation of schools and educational facilities. He has a special interest in design-thinking, co-design with children & youth, child-friendly urban planning and innovation in carbon-neutral and regenerative building design. He studies for LEED AP (leadership in energy and environmental design accredited professional).
Previous, he has worked in sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East and South Asia, in various capacities with UN, World Bank, and Private Sector on child friendly-and sustainable cities and climate change-resilient and sustainable human settlement planning. He is an architect, urban planner and building-and-mechanical engineer and holds a PhD in the planning and design of user-friendly and environmentally sustainable schools from Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands and won the TU/e 2003 PhD award from the faculty architecture and building.
